Question Zappa plays Zappa

Hi all! I'm interested in hearing about your views on Dweezil's Zappa Plays Zappa 2 DVD set and ZPZ tours. Both are/were pretty amazing... especially for Z fans. My only issues with the LA shows. They were LOUD. So loud as to be painful. And they were at the HOUSE OF BLUES. Going to the HOB for a rock show is like going to the Queen Mary for a boat ride. The trappings are there but they really have nothing to do with each other. The drinks and the staff are the best things going for HOB and both of those would be subpar in a skid row bar. John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix and Steve Marriot could form a heavenly band (with Bonzo on drums) and ask me to play bass and I'd jump at the chance until I found out all the shows would be at the various HOBs. I'd have to opt out at that point for moral reasons for an acoustic tour of hell with Brian Jones.

I didn't make any of the ZPZ shows, none in my immediate area, but having gotten the pleasure of seeing Frank Zappa (even saw him on Halloween in NYC @ the Felt Forum) I don't know if I could see it as anything but "only in it for the money"!

Thanks for letting me know about the Dweezil DVD. Even without hearing it, I'm sure it will be as true to life as Dweezil can make it. FZ was one of my earliest rock stars and album purchases, and I hated to lose him. Name the genre, and he had something to add (and something to say about it). Let's be Frank--I've heard Dweezil shut up and play his guitar, and he's quite good, but he's not the master. He may admit that, and good for him. That would make him his father's son. In the early 70's (real early) I had the good fortune of attending a Mother's concert outside of Baltimore, MD, at an old, shut-down segregated beach pavilion called, as I remember it, the Great McGonigle Seaside Park. I own a lot of Zappa concert disks, but I haven't come across any from that brilliant evening. I'm fairly sure I saw it being recorded. By itself it wouldn't have no boss, and if it isn't distributed, it's everyone's loss.
