Niles SI-245 setup recommendations

I got a great price on this Niles SI-245 2ch amp, and decided to buy it...thinking that I could leverage its power for a great 2-ch setup.

Upon first hookup, I noticed that the volume could only be managed by a set of L/R gains on the front of the unit...not to mention that I must use a screwdriver to adjust these.

IMO, not the most ideal setup. I would like to control the volume via one of my AV receivers (Onkyo 706 or Denon 789), which both have Zone 2 options.

Anybody have experience with these Niles amps, or one like it with similar connectivity options.

They are usually connected to a pre-amplifier that controls the source and the volume. Ideally your receiver would have some controlled preamp outputs (not tape outs) to connect to the Niles. Failing that you might try using the receiver's left and right speaker outputs. You may need to set the level controls on the Niles to maximum.

Understood, I need preouts....

Here's my problem...my Denon 789 does not have preouts.

Would it be possible for me to use this amp in a Zone 2 setup?

If so, how? I have attached the pic for clarification.

I suppose it would. Do you have zone 2 preamp outputs or does the Denon use some of the surround channels for zone 2?
