I just purchased a Panasonic DMP-BD30K. My first player was a Sony BDP-S300. The picture is comparable, but the Panasonic handles all of the new audio formats through as bit stream.
Pirates of the Carribean takes 1/20th the time to "boot up" vs. the Sony. This is going to be a moving target for a long time.
