GraceNote Announces DVD Recognition System and Partner With D&M Holdings
At the CEDIA Expo home electronics show, Gracenote® announces the world’s most advanced DVD recognition system for audio/video devices with Gracenote VideoID-DVD. The new system will combine the broadest catalogue of motion picture information with the most accurate technology for identifying DVD disks. The VideoID platform is endorsed by industry leader D&M Holdings Inc., which has signed a multi-year agreement standardizing on the Gracenote video and music platform across its brands. D&M Holdings brand companies include: Denon®, Marantz®, McIntosh® Laboratory, Boston Acoustics®, Snell Acoustics, Denon DJ, Escient, ReplayTV, Calrec Audio, D&M Professional, and D&M Premium Sound Solutions.
Available in mid-2008, the VideoID-DVD solution will leverage Gracenote’s Global Media Database with in-depth information on more than 195,000 movie titles. This comprehensive catalog will contain more than 50 individual data attributes behind each title, including director, cast members, production crew, studio, genre, keywords, release year, language, awards, and more. In addition to the extensive database, VideoID-DVD will feature Gracenote’s patented media recognition software for accurately identifying individual DVDs and relating them to the Gracenote database. This will result in the most powerful solution available for identifying any DVD in a user’s DVD changer and providing rich content through their home A/V devices.
VideoID-DVD will work together with Gracenote’s industry-leading MusicID platform, creating the most advanced combined music and video recognition system for the home entertainment market. With the new platform, customers will have one comprehensive media recognition suite that is easy to implement, simple to use, and connects to the world’s most comprehensive database of video and music information.
“We're excited to add VideoID-DVD to our industry-leading media recognition system and make it available to the CEDIA market, giving device manufacturers an exceptional database of rich content and the technology expertise to identify nearly every major motion picture DVD,” said Jim Hollingsworth, Gracenote senior vice president of sales and marketing. “The combined MusicID and VideoID-DVD product completes the most effective media identification suite the industry has ever seen. We’re thrilled to have D&M Holdings embrace our solution and look forward to a long partnership with both music and movie recognition an integral part of their product line.”
D&M Holdings is a leading manufacturer of home entertainment devices, and the company has adopted Gracenote’s combined VideoID and MusicID platform for all future products. Because VideoID-DVD and MusicID are built upon the same platform, the new system ensures a seamless deployment by consumer electronics manufacturers already using MusicID, which comprises millions of devices in the market.
“D&M Holdings is known for technology expertise and the highest quality home entertainment systems, and VideoID-DVD is perfectly in line with our product strategy,” said Bernie Sepaniak, CTO of D&M Holdings Inc. “Managing media collections at home is one of the core challenges for customers, and the Gracenote media recognition platform not only simplifies the process, but gives them the most accurate and comprehensive system for CD and DVD recognition right inside their devices.”
Gracenote MusicID Expands Further into Home Electronics
For the past 10 years Gracenote has developed MusicID and its Global Media Database into the largest database of music information ever created—with comprehensive data on more than six million CDs and links to rich information such as lyrics, artwork, reviews, biographies, and more. Using patented technology and sophisticated algorithms, MusicID connects digital music devices with Gracenote’s Global Media Database, making it easy for consumers to organize oftentimes thousands of music files on a host of consumer electronics devices in the home, the car and beyond.
MusicID is used inside more home entertainment devices than any other music recognition system, including audio devices from Bose, Gibson Audio, Philips, Yamaha and others. The company's most recent customer, Magic Home Entertainment, is using Gracenote MusicID, Playlist and Cover Art in its moodSeer system, enabling CD and music file recognition, sanctioned cover art and automated playlist generation—three increasingly important services as consumer music collections grow into the thousands. The moodSeer system brings instant gratification to the music aficionado, where they can pick music to suit their mood in any room, enjoy speed of thought access to any track in their collection, and control their music from anywhere in the home, wirelessly.
