when i worked at circuit city we taught people to sit 2.5 to 3 times the distance of their screen away. 61" would be a minimum of 182" away. but they came up with that before hd got really good.

i would put in a bluray, and move back until you don't see the pixels fluctuate in color (they'll look like they're dancing).
