Re: Jeff Beck Blow By Blow on SACD - Glorified Porn Music or GENIUS?
Have owned this in multiple formats and never had purple pants I'm afraid.
When I first heard it at 16, I didn't "get it" on the first play and then it sinks in that Beck had re-invented himself. The album displays some fusion aspects but is also R&B and orchestral in spots. He showed us he had many different ideas and George Martin was there to help him realize them.
FUSION: When done properly (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return To Forever) it had astonishing results. Not so say there weren't albums that sucked like every other genre. It always boils down to having compelling material in the compositions; it should never sound like exercises stapled together and sold as music.
I have witnessed both.
