Default Re: Blu-ray’s Fuzzy Future

So the one thing that would significantly threaten BlueRay then, is a substantial increase in bandwidth availability - fiber-optic to the home MAY be that for example - and / or a new model for compression / decompression technology. I dont suggest either is imminent, only that they would immediately remove the barrier to entry for HD VOD.

In the interim - perhaps they'll settle for an asynch download that is akin to the Netflix-by-mail offering of today - instead of mailing the DVD however, the download happens asynchronously - perhaps the flick is broken into packets and downloaded overnight, then re-assembled by the home device - eliminating the need for synchronous bandwidth and letting you store a limited number of movies for later viewing.

Absent an option like these advances, I tend to agree the discs are here for a while.
