The iLink (Firewire) will transmit a fully digital MC Audio signal, and totally bypass the DAC's in the player. I not well versed in the UZ-1, I own a DV-50s, and it allows analog outs, which is how I use it.

I have the D2, it's a nice unit, and feature rich, but the Meridian 861v4 is a far nicer unit, match that to a G98DH or 800v4 and you've got one of the best MC audio set ups I've ever heard. DO realize Meridian only does DVD-A, so you'll need the MC analog in for SACD.....
