Re: Blu-Ray vs DVD sales
Quite frankly, this limping along thing that the producers of BD (and formerly HD-DVD) have been doing these last 2+ years is truly pathetic. Sony & Phillips almost single-handedly killed off the LP between 1982 and 1990 because they took control of both the hardware and the software music industries - making CD a mainstay for nearly 25 years. If only they could have done it again.
Well, DVD pretty much pushed VHS and magnetic tape out the window between 1997 and 2004 as far as home theater viewing and computer storage. But that is because it worked - just like CD - quickly and effortlessly, and with superior perceived quality to its forebears.
BD (and HD-DVD to a lesser extent) have contributed heavily to most people's belief that these formats have a way to go before being worth buying. And for those of us embracing these new HD formats from their start, the lack of great and consistent titles (that are available on DVD) is just not creating a conducive buying environment.
Where are the Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Clint Eastwood, Star Trek movies, etc???
