The almost unanimous advice of consumer advocacy groups, the "major media outlets" and "enthusiast publications" for consumers to take a "wait and see" attitude toward HD-DVD and Blu-ray is sound. The chances of survival for either of these formats, let alone your ability as a consumer to pick the winning horse if there is a survivor are extremely small.
The moment these two formats were launched in competition they were both dead. Sorry, but that's the most likely outcome. You need look no further than the outcome of SACD and DVD-Audio conflict for an exact analogy to what will happen in the high def disc platform war. iTunes didn't kill SACD and DVD-Audio.
