See if this sounds familiar: SA-CD vs. DVD-Audio or BR vs HD-DVD.

Winner of the first battle is SA-CD. Or did it? This is still a fringe market/technology.

I think BR has a chance of going that route unless the price of players and discs are comparable to DVD and the average TV becomes very large to really notice a difference. Disc revisions and compatibility also seem to be a problems.

I use a Samsung DVD machine and upconvert to 720p on my 37". Looks very nice. BR may be better but not enough to make me want to upgrade.
