I read an article that quoted a Toshiba VP who stated that it worked with a firmware update on the A2 and XA2. I can't remember where I read it, it was a link sent by someone to me. So there is an article out there with the statement. Technically knowing the design of the units and how they work there is no reason that either BD or HD-DVD couldn't get firmware updates to allow triple layer or quadruple layer reading.
Remember when there were uneducated internet posters implying that BD50 wouldn't work in players?
