Linn Unidisk 1.1 Universal Disc Player
Introduction The world of ultra-high-end audio has had to adjust their business model quite a bit over the last decade. With technology developing in new and exciting ways, equipment manufacturers clamored to produce real-world digital products that would support the new emerging software formats when, historically, high-end audio was an industry based around excellence more in analog (preamps, amps, speakers, turntables) products. While most of the high-end equipment manufacturers steered clear of machines that supported future and uncertain formats, Linn Products, a company known for taking bold and adventurous steps in the name of uncompromised sound, took new audio formats for music and movies as a challenge. Not surprising, considering that Linn produced and sold, very successfully I might add, one of the world’s best and most expensive dedicated CD player at $20,000. Linn’s solution to the ever-growing need for a universal high-end player, which can unite all aspects of optical disc playback, is the Unidisk 1.1 ...

LG Electronics RU52SZ61D 52-inch DLP HDTV
Introduction The mere mention of flat screen television brings out passion in even non-AV enthusiasts. In fact, there are few households that wouldn’t purchase such display devices if they didn’t command what is considered by most to be a king’s ransom. I mean, what’s not to love? They are slim, can be hung on walls and free up much desired and highly valuable floor space. Research from our readers show the majority of homes have one of two styles of TVs – some have smaller direct-view CRT televisions while others have ridiculously large rear-projected CRT big screens. The latter became very popular in the last decade-and-a-half as an inexpensive way to enjoy very large video. These “big screen TV” displays reach up to and beyond 70 inches, and weigh in at a price that most can afford, yet they also have serious downsides, as they are enormous and frankly in most cases have poor ...

Linn Sondek LP12 Turntable
Introduction Technology surrounding music reproduction is progressing at a skyrocketing rate. Consumers are being introduced to new digital formats, such as DVD-Audio and SACD, with promises of even greater resolution formats around the corner, like Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Since the inception of CD musical playback in the early ‘80s, most of those old enough to have experienced its processors, such as vinyl records, cassettes and eight track tapes, have since purged their collections of such relics in favor of the more convenient and seemingly “perfect” digital formats. Many consumers decided to let their ears decide which format sounded superior. What many of them found was that the compact disc was not all it was built up to be. Sure, the CD succeeded in eliminating some of the annoyances of the older generation formats, such as eight-track tape track changes, the poor ...

Linn Sizmik 12.45 Subwoofer
Introduction Reviewers at AudioRevolution.com literally fight over who gets the next Linn product for evaluation. The reason is simple: they manufacture ultra-high-quality, cutting-edge A/V components at the very top of the industry’s price scale. Linn Products is located on the serene outskirts of Glasgow, Scotland, where they develop, design and, even to this day, manufacture virtually all of their products in-house. Linn feels that this is the only reliable way to control the quality of the finished goods and ensure that their customers receive the very highest-level ownership experience possible. It all started some 30-odd years back when, in the vision of their founder, the LP12 record playback system was born. This was during a time when few knew or had the vision to see the benefit in perfecting the source component. Previously, manufacturers focused on other areas that they felt were more influential to good sound, like amps and preamps. We all know our ...

Linn Classik Movie Di
Introduction The Linn Classik Movie Di is the latest all-in-one movie system from Linn and the big brother to their compelling Classik Movie System. The Classik Di is essentially Linn’s high-end option for a home theater-in-a-box. Like the Classik Movie, the Di is an all-in-one entertainment solution, complete with CD playback, AM/FM tuner, multi-channel DVD, and multi-room distributed audio, for a price of $4,900. During my recent trips to the large electronics retailers, I have noticed more and more “Home Theater In a Box” systems crowding the shelves. These systems typically feature a 5.1 subwoofer/satellite system, packaged with a surround receiver containing a built-in DVD player. The difference between the majority of those systems and the Linn CMS Di is the emphasis Linn puts on sound quality. The Di sets itself apart from garden-variety electronics by providing time-tested audiophile sound in a physically tiny, aesthetically pleasing package. The CMS Di, at $4,900 in black or $4,950 in ...
