Audioengine N22 Desktop Audio Amplifier Review
One discussion topic I constantly see on Audio forums and chat rooms is the “second system.” Most of us dream of having at least one room in the home/apartment that can serve as a primary listening and/or home theater room. But bringing a functional system into any room while maintaining feng shui can be  challenging. It can be doubly challenging for a second system. When it comes down to it, most of us are willing to sacrifice some performance for convenience; after all, who wants a 60-pound amp sitting on the dresser, no matter how great the sound? Audioengine's latest release, the N22 Desktop Audio Amplifier makes such sacrifices a lot easier. This 22-watt unit can serve proudly in any second system, even as “the” system if space dictates. Quick to SetupLike every Audioengine product I've tested, the N22 is ...

I had the pleasure of reviewing what I think is one of the most musical, beautifully made stand mount monitors, the ClairAudient 2 + 2 , by Audience, located in San Marcos, CA. I was not only impressed by the sound, but also the excellent workmanship. I found head honcho John McDonald to be one of the nicest guys in the high end audio business, and he constantly strives to improve his products in a highly competitive marketplace. And speaking of competitive, the audiophile cable arena is extremely crowded, with everyone from kitchen table type one man operations to established corporate entities offering cables of every conceivable design, and at price points covering the entire spectrum.  But Audience has managed to stand out from the fray for many years now with many positive reviews, an established dealer network, and yearly ...

The holidays are a great time to get your friends and family gifts that they really want.  The giving season also grants you the opportunity to provide your loved ones with something they need – even if they didn't know they needed it.  Whether you're upgrading your own home theater or helping out someone on your list, we've got the receivers for you.Entry LevelJust because you're spending less than $500 doesn't mean you can't get a solid receiver from a great brand.  For those getting their first receiver or those that want a secondary setup, an entry level A/V receiver is more than enough.Harman/Kardon AVR1600Harman isn't especially well known for entry level gear, but the AVR1600 is a solid receiver with a retail price of just $499.  It's designed to not only provide high-quality sound, but to simplify some of ...

AudioControl Concert AVR-1 Home Theater AV Receiver Review
I like movies but dislike the movie theater experience. I'll never understand the connection between attending the cinema and stuffing one's face with as much popcorn, candy and soda as possible in a 2-hour swipe. Inevitably, I'm surrounded by groups of folks more intent on demonstrating how loudly they can masticate than actually watching the film. Thus, I've acquired a reputation as something of a movie theater Scrooge and would rather do the whole movie thing at home. My critics counter, “But you can't get the same big-screen experience at home. And what about the special effects and the sound?” Granted, I can't drop a 30- or 40-foot screen into my living room without calling my insurance agent; however, you want movie theater special effects and sound? Really great sound? That's where AudioControl's Concert AVR-1 comes in to save the ...

avielo radiance DLP Projector Preview
Norway's projectiondesign seeks to provide unparalleled image quality and user experiences its aveilo radiance DLP projector.  With a full HD 1920 x 1080p native resolution, the single chip (0.95"), single lamp aveilo radiance is based on the same chases as the avielo spectra, but features 10-bit video processing and a higher output for larger screens "at a relatively low cost."The avielo radiance speaks fluent PAL, SECAM, and NTSC digital and analogue RGB, accepting all 1080i/p, 720p, 576i/p, and 480i/p signals which will then be projected at 1080p.  Projector offset stats are impressive on the vertical side (a vertical offset of 124%), but there is no horizontal offset.  Contrast ratio is a decent >5000:1 (native optical contrast).  The single 300-watt UHP lamp is good for a brightness of 1200 ANSI lumens (adjustable), which means with an 87 inch screen, you're throwing ...
