Audience adeptResponse aR6 Power Conditioner Review
The product category of power conditioners is one that often stirs debate, for and against, in the audiophile community. Some argue that a properly designed power supply needs no additional components to perform well, while others believe that the quality of delivered AC determines the quality of the audio performance.  I have heard some audiophiles proclaim a conditioner is an indispensable piece of gear, and others claim it makes their systems sound worse. What makes this review interesting is that I have no experience with conditioners. I normally plug my tube amp directly into a high quality AC receptacle, and my preamp and sources into a passive power strip free of any surge protecting devices or fuses. So I am calling this the “clean slate” review. To greatly simplify for the sake of everyone, a power conditioner is an electrical device ...

Aaron Audio No.1.a Integrated Amplifier Review
I don't get to travel as much as I'd like to in the traditional sense, but every piece of audio equipment I review takes me on a journey of sorts. Whether it's embarking on a symbolic trip overseas to the component's origin or into the rarefied air of gear whose price exceeds my bankroll, the paths are always interesting and often enlightening. And sometimes they are flat out surprising. At the end of J.R.R. Tolkien's “The Fellowship Of The Ring,” hobbit hero Frodo Baggins finds life in his old homeland, The Shire, no longer possible. His quest to save Middle Earth from the dark lord, Sauron, has exposed him to things beyond his imagination and broken his innocence. Too many things have happened, and he no longer can dwell in the idyllic yet naïve world of his kin. Finally, Frodo ...

Audioengine N22 Desktop Audio Amplifier Review
One discussion topic I constantly see on Audio forums and chat rooms is the “second system.” Most of us dream of having at least one room in the home/apartment that can serve as a primary listening and/or home theater room. But bringing a functional system into any room while maintaining feng shui can be  challenging. It can be doubly challenging for a second system. When it comes down to it, most of us are willing to sacrifice some performance for convenience; after all, who wants a 60-pound amp sitting on the dresser, no matter how great the sound? Audioengine's latest release, the N22 Desktop Audio Amplifier makes such sacrifices a lot easier. This 22-watt unit can serve proudly in any second system, even as “the” system if space dictates. Quick to SetupLike every Audioengine product I've tested, the N22 is ...

I had the pleasure of reviewing what I think is one of the most musical, beautifully made stand mount monitors, the ClairAudient 2 + 2 , by Audience, located in San Marcos, CA. I was not only impressed by the sound, but also the excellent workmanship. I found head honcho John McDonald to be one of the nicest guys in the high end audio business, and he constantly strives to improve his products in a highly competitive marketplace. And speaking of competitive, the audiophile cable arena is extremely crowded, with everyone from kitchen table type one man operations to established corporate entities offering cables of every conceivable design, and at price points covering the entire spectrum.  But Audience has managed to stand out from the fray for many years now with many positive reviews, an established dealer network, and yearly ...

The holidays are a great time to get your friends and family gifts that they really want.  The giving season also grants you the opportunity to provide your loved ones with something they need – even if they didn't know they needed it.  Whether you're upgrading your own home theater or helping out someone on your list, we've got the receivers for you.Entry LevelJust because you're spending less than $500 doesn't mean you can't get a solid receiver from a great brand.  For those getting their first receiver or those that want a secondary setup, an entry level A/V receiver is more than enough.Harman/Kardon AVR1600Harman isn't especially well known for entry level gear, but the AVR1600 is a solid receiver with a retail price of just $499.  It's designed to not only provide high-quality sound, but to simplify some of ...
