Audioengine A2+ Desktop Speakers Review
I have been into computer audio since the time it meant ripping your CDs into lossy files to either load them up on your mp3 player or to play them back over plastic computer "speakers."  The evolution of digital file playback has rendered that scenario quaint, as cheap storage, lossless codecs, high-resolution audio, and USB DAC units have changed the landscape. Many audiophiles use their computers as serious digital front ends in reference systems. Those with more modest means and tighter spaces, and yet still crave quality audio reproduction, pair computers with outboard DACs and powered, so-called "desktop speakers." A recent trend has seen manufacturers equip these active speakers with consumer friendly inputs. Many have on board DACs. It must also be noted that the term "desktop speakers" is one of the more abused around. Some look like stand-mount speakers ...

Anthony Gallo Acoustics A’Diva SE Loudspeakers & TR-3D Subwoofer Review
My first extended experience with an Anthony Gallo loudspeaker was two years ago, when I reviewed the Classico Cl-1 monitor and matching CLS-10 subwoofer. Having already heard much about Gallo products -- from professional reviewers, dealers, and fiercely loyal owners -- I liked the Classicos very much, but, ironically, they were not the type of speakers Gallo was known for designing. That is, box-shaped monitors. In fact, Anthony Gallo has carved out a distinct and unique position in the speaker market with designs that forgo traditional enclosures and drivers. Given Gallo’s website -- www.roundsound.com -- round is exactly the shape that the company is known for. Not to mention Gallo’s unique tweeter design, which unlike conventional designs, do not use a voice coil or magnet. Instead, a transformer passes the signal and contracts the conductive surface of the diaphragm. ...

Audience, out of San Marcos, CA, is one of the most respected companies in the power conditioning arena, with their line of adeptReponse series consistently getting rave reviews from the audio press and end users alike. I reviewed the adeptResponse aR6 conditioner, and subsequently purchased the review sample, as it enhanced my system in every conceivable way sonically. I cannot imagine my main system without it at this point. The company, headed up by CEO John McDonald, also produces award winning cables, speakers, and electronics. I reviewed the Audience ClairAudient 2 + 2 Loudspeakers and was highly impressed. Last, but not least, they make state of the art capacitors, which they call AuriCaps. They also make a Teflon version called AuriTeflon. Aside from using them in their own products, they also supply them to other high-end audio manufacturers, along with ...

Anthony Gallo Acoustics Classico CL-1 Loudspeaker & CLS-10 Subwoofer Review
Anthony Gallo Acoustics, founded in 1994, has pushed the limits of loudspeaker design, and dazzled those who have encountered their products.  Their futuristic, advanced technology based loudspeakers often raised eyebrows with their appearance, which feature cylindrical drivers, side firing woofers, and the lack of any traditional enclosure or box. They have a diehard following in the context of two channel and home theater setups alike.Recently, Anthony Gallo  Acoustics made big news with their introduction of a full line of speakers in traditional cabinet enclosures with wood finishes.  This was a big surprise to those who have followed Gallo over the years.  These new products are marketed as the Classico Series. As one might expect from Gallo, there are unique and proprietary technologies under the hood of these seemingly conventional looking designs. According to Anthony Gallo Acoustics, some of the proprietary ...

AVRev's CES 2012 Post-Show Wrap Up
Las Vegas was yet again host to CES, where hundreds of industry folks, journalists, and just plain revelers converged to see the latest trends in technology, communications, entertainment, and lifestyle products.  Every major manufacturer and media company was exhibiting, and there were wonders to behold. Aside from the massive Las Vegas convention center, the show was spread across half a dozen hotels as well. Trying to cover it all is an exercise in futility. I focused my attention on high end audio, and even then I fell short of seeing every exhibit. I spent most of my time in the Venetian, where the bulk of high performance audio products were displayed. There was everything from budget minded micro systems to state of the art, over the top, large scale rigs. There were many new products in the digital ...
