PSB Platinum Ovation Theater System Plus
Introduction PSB, established in 1971 by founder and chief designer Paul Barton, has earned a reputation for manufacturing loudspeakers that offer outstanding performance while incorporating effective cost engineering as a design priority. Thorough in execution, slow in change, their Stratus Gold (and subsequent “Gold-i” improved version) stood as PSB’s reference loudspeaker for an unprecedented time, garnishing praise and accolades from both consumers and press alike. But like all technologies, new advancements in the industry inspired Mr. Barton to put his decades of experience to work. The goal was to start from scratch, creating a statement loudspeaker line for the new millennium, designated as the Platinum Series. PSB employed comprehensive computer design and sophisticated measurement techniques during the blueprinting of the Platinum loudspeakers, including laser vibrometry and Finite Element Analysis for driver and cabinet design. With extensive use of the world-renowned Canadian National Research Council facilities, PSB conducted extensive loudspeaker measurements and double-blind listening tests to achieve their uncompromising ...

Klegg M6 501 Home Theater System
Introduction The demand for affordable audio/video systems is on the climb as more and more consumers find that their HDTV-video needs have used up much of their overall home theater budgets. Retailers are scrambling to find slick, thin solutions that work with today’s best, flattest TVs. Klegg Audio is a relatively new, UK-based manufacturer of small surround speaker packages designed to compete in the highly competitive “home theater in a box” (HTIB for short) market. Klegg as a new brand is making impressive inroads in a world where every consumer knows every brand. They have packaged attractive one-stop solutions complete with speakers and surround controllers and, most recently, plasma displays that also wear the Klegg logo. Klegg’s M6 501 Home Theater System features five beautifully tiny speakers, a subwoofer, amplification and a surround sound processor for a very modest price of $999. This market segment features the likes of Bose, Gallo Acoustics and most of the ...

Energy Connoisseur Speaker System
Introduction and Set-up For those of you who love the look and open sound of a pair of attractive, high-performance floor-standing speakers flanking your video display, the Energy Connoisseur line has several new options for you to choose from. This review system consists of a pair of $750 C-5 floor-standing speakers, a $400 C-C1 Center Channel, a pair of $400 C-R1 Rear Channels and the small but powerful $500 S8.2 Subwoofer. Only the Veritas series offers higher performance than the Connoisseurs in the Energy lineup of speakers. I don’t have a very large living room, so when the boxes arrived at the Audio Video Revolution offices, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I could fit the entire system into my compact car. I love monster speakers that can rock an amphitheater as much as the next guy, but I could tell that these reasonably-sized Energy speakers were going to be a good fit to my ...

Aperion Audio Intimus System D Speaker System
Introduction By now, as a tech-savvy Audio Video Revolution reader, you have likely heard of Dell Computers and their business model of selling customized PCs directly to customers. Aperion Audio takes a similar approach to selling customized, entry-level high-performance speaker systems directly to the consumer. Aperion Audio was formed in1998, a result of founder/CEO Win Jeanfreau’s personal quest to find an inexpensive yet excellent-sounding speaker system. Disappointed with the prices of the quality speakers that he wanted, Jeanfreau started his own speaker company to meet a market niche that at the time was not being addressed. Aperion Audio offers Internet direct speaker systems to consumers at affordable prices, but what sets them apart from the household brands is their desire to please the customer. In the same ways that dealers are willing to work with you, Aperion’s sales staff will help you craft the perfect affordable speaker solution for your system. They also sell a few ...

Infinity TSS-750 Series
Introduction Chances are that you already are familiar with the Infinity brand of loudspeakers. If you opted for the premium sound system in your new car or went shopping at Circuit City recently, you probably saw something bearing the long-standing and well-respected name of Infinity. What younger readers may not know is that this familiar brand has been around since 1968 and is owned by Harman International Industries. Harman is to home electronics as Ford Motor Co. is to automobiles. Harman makes anything from moderately-priced JBL speakers to $20,000 per pair Revel Salons. In years gone by, Infinity was considered as one of the top audiophile grade speakers money could buy. Now their market position is a little different, having more focus on getting Harman’s vast technological resources to clients at more affordable prices. The TSS-750 Home Cinema Series speakers do just that as a complete 5.1 home theater speaker system priced at $749. The TSS-750 ...
