The Top Five TVs of CES 2011
Another Consumer Electronics Show has come and gone and we’re left waiting patiently – or not so patiently – for all the new TV we saw at the show to finally be released.  Just what TVs are those?  We’re glad you asked.#5 - Sony XBR-55HX929The list starts off with one of the biggest names in TVs, Blu-ray players and just about everything else electronic to boot.  Sony brought plenty to the show, including the fantastic XBR-55HX929. As we've come to expect from high-end televisions, the 929 offers great performance while in 2D and in 3D.  It offers LED backlighting, integrated Wi-Fi and Bravia Internet Video, but its biggest features are those that aren't as obvious. One feature that I'm happy to see on the new line of Sony TVs is the inclusion of Corning Gorilla Glass.  Sony says there are benefits ...

Video Hits and Misses of CES 2011
It’s time to wrap up the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show with a look at what worked and what didn’t.  Find out how smart devices fared, what's become of Google TV and whether 2011 will finally be the year of the 3D TV.3D – HIT3D has been on the 'Miss' side of this list for the last two years, but I'm finally ready to say that it's here to stay.  Individual technologies have improved, the quality of the experience is better and prices just keep dropping.I’ve been a 3D skeptic ever since it started showing up at CES, but this year I’m starting to turn around.  Not just because the tech is getting better, but because there's just so much 3D around.  There's enough out there that it no longer feels like a niche product.  There are 3D games and movies ...

Samsung Roundtable – CES 2011
CES isn’t all massive booths and packed show floors – there are plenty of meetings going on behind-the-scenes.  I was lucky enough to get an invite to a roundtable conversation with a few Samsung VPs and a select group of press members. The panelists included bigwigs from across Samsung’s operation, as well as a moderator and a translator to help out with some of the trickier questions. Kevin Lee – Vice President, Smart TV PartnershipsBong-Ku Kang – Senior Vice President, Product Marketing GroupHyo-Gun Lee – Vice President Software Group R&D TeamJohn Revie – Senior Vice President Home EntertainmentThere was a good deal of traffic and nearly everyone was delayed in getting to the panel, so rather than bother with lengthy introductions, things got rolling with questions right off the bat.Q: Samsung has been using a new technology called PLS in ...

The holiday season is rolling around and there's no gift more exciting than a television, whether you're on the giving end or the receiving end.  You can expect to see some absolutely crazy deals this holiday season, especially as Black Friday rolls around, but deal or not, you've got to make sure you get a great set for your money. Up to $1,000 We'll start out at the entry level with sets that sell for $1,000 or less.  You get what you pay for, of course.  Sets in the $1,000 range won't boast the same video quality and features as a set that you'd put in your main viewing room, but they're great for second viewing rooms, cottages, or even as gifts for someone you love. Top Pick: Sony 40" Internet TV If you're looking for a set that can do just about ...

Everything You Need to Know About Google TV
The long awaited launch of Google TV is finally here and we couldn't be more excited.  We've heard more than our fair share of rumors, and even passed on some of the more reliable ones, but we've finally got the official details on the entire Google TV lineup for 2010.What it DoesFor starters, let's talk about what Google TV is.  It's not a product in and of itself, but a platform that runs on specific hardware.  Think of it as Microsoft Windows or Mac OS, but for your television.  Any piece of gear that has it will have the same capabilities, all of which revolve around internet based content. Using the Logitech Revue, Sony's Internet TV or Blu-ray player you'll be able to browse the web as if you were sitting at a computer.  Want to watch a video or ...
