CES 2011 Preview
The Consumer Electronics Show is just a couple days away, and there's plenty of excitement going into it.  It's a time for big announcements, exciting technologies and perhaps the part we all look forward to - new product launches. Every CES is different and every CES brings something new.  It's like Christmas day for the industry.  Each booth is like a present under the tree just waiting to be opened.  Sometimes you get exactly what you wanted, sometimes there's a surprise and sometimes you get reindeer socks from your weird aunt. The last few Consumer Electronics Shows have showcased 3D televisions, Blu-ray players and height channel audio, declaring each year to be the big one for 3D.  This CES is going to be even more 3D focused than the last few - it's time for that big push to see if ...

The story that that has dominated domestic and international headlines after last year’s presidential election is the state of the world economy, specifically the recession that has affected virtually every sector of the world’s markets.  Between unemployment numbers, devaluation of securities, the tightening of credit lines, the weakening of the U.S. dollar, and reluctance of consumers to spend during such uncertain circumstances have put a halt to capital expenditures. In short, it is the classic vicious circle.Mainstream retailers have been especially hit hard. Long standing businesses such as CompUSA, Circuit City, KB Toys, and Linen N’ Things comprise a very short list of companies that had to close up shop and liquidate.  Along with retail, the travel and hospitality, automotive, and general services sectors have been dealt knockout punches. The consumer electronics industry is down, but has fared better than was ...

This Tuesday, the second Blu-Con conference was held in Beverly Hills, California.  Blu-Con is entirely dedicated to the topic of Blu-ray and its potential future within the movie, hardware, software, gaming and retail industries.   We jumped at the chance to attend, especially with all the underlying conversations about digital delivery versus Blu-ray adoption.  We were very interested in hearing how the current state of the economy had altered the adoption rate of Blu-ray and what the industry experts expected to see in the coming months / years. The conference kicked off with an opening from the DEG (Digitial Entertainment Group) president about what he expected to see this holiday season; namely $99 Blu-ray players and a higher attach rate of Blu-ray disc purchases.  There are currently 12 million U.S. homes with Blu-ray players and title sales have already risen about 83% ...

CES 2009 has come and gone.  Reports estimate the crowd in attendance was somewhere between 110,000 and 130,000 people.  While this is a decrease in overall attendees from CES shows of the past, the halls were still packed shoulder to shoulder with gadget hungry techies, bloggers and industry professionals.  The team at AVRev dove into the fracas to bring you everything worth hearing about at the show.
