We dug through all the equipment that we covered in 2010 to bring you our top picks for gear that we got our hands on this year.  Check out the Gear We Loved in 2010!Andre Marc's PicksMcIntosh MA6600 Integrated Amplifier "While not cheap at $6000, MA6600 easily competed with much more expensive units, and even higher priced separates. A solid pre and power combination from a multitude of well know high end manufacturers will cost you as much or more, and will be have very few or any of the features of the MA6600. When McIntosh says they did not compromise on the design of their integrated amps, I believe them and the proof was in the pudding; highly recommended for those searching for a top notch integrated amp in the $5000-$7000 range."Audience ClaireAudient 2 + 2 Monitors "I found my ...

Keeping the Sound in the Room: Soundproofing
As home theater enthusiasts, we tend to get excited about making our home theaters bigger, better, clearer and louder.  We drool over more powerful amplifiers more capable speakers and subwoofers that provide just the right amount of boom. We want best sound possible for our home theater, but when it comes to areas outside of our viewing room - when we're reading a book in the next room or trying to sleep in our beds - we just want silence.  Hearing those massive speakers outside of the home theater is a no.Whether you've got a dedicated theater space or a multi-purpose room that you use for your home theater, there is a wide array of options available to you, ranging from the cheap and simple to the costly and complex. You can have the best TV, the most feature packed Blu-ray player and the highest quality receiver on the market, but to get the full effect you'll need to get your hands on some great speakers.  What makes a great speaker depends entirely on your tastes and needs, so we've crafted a list that should satisfy a wide range of needs.Entry Level When it comes to the entry level, we're looking at speakers for folks that are stepping up from their TV's built-in audio or from home theater-in-a-box type setups.  Whether sold as a pair or as a full 5.1 setup, these range under $1,000 and are some of the best you can get at the entry level.Energy 5.1 Take ClassicAudio enthusiasts can't agree on much, but what seems to be unanimous is the suggestion of Energy speakers.  If you're ...

I had the pleasure of reviewing what I think is one of the most musical, beautifully made stand mount monitors, the ClairAudient 2 + 2 , by Audience, located in San Marcos, CA. I was not only impressed by the sound, but also the excellent workmanship. I found head honcho John McDonald to be one of the nicest guys in the high end audio business, and he constantly strives to improve his products in a highly competitive marketplace. And speaking of competitive, the audiophile cable arena is extremely crowded, with everyone from kitchen table type one man operations to established corporate entities offering cables of every conceivable design, and at price points covering the entire spectrum.  But Audience has managed to stand out from the fray for many years now with many positive reviews, an established dealer network, and yearly ...

Getting gifts is great, there's no one debating that.  Giving gifts may be less rewarding financially, but there are some things you just can't put a price on.  Imagine your brother-in-law's face when he sees his first Blu-ray or the sheer joy emanating from your parents when you introduce them to 1080p for the first time.  Blu-ray players are a great gift, and we've got the best of them compiled in one simple list.Entry LevelWhen we talk about entry level, we're talking about players for those completely new to Blu-ray, or those upgrading from an early system without the benefit of online firmware updates and BD-Live.  They're not at the top of the list for the best ever, but they do top the list in their class – a few hundred dollars or less.Panasonic DMP-BDT100 The BDT100 from Panasonic is ...
