AVRev.com's "Best Of 2002" List
The Best High-Performance Audio/Video Equipment You Can Buy
What
an incredible year it has been for audio/video! Despite the prolonged
U.S. recession, the A/V industry has been cranking out new and better
technology at a breakneck rate. This is good news for the new additions
to the AudioRevolution.com Best of 2002 list and bad news for the
products that have lost their listings. Many items that have been
dropped from the list are excellent products that are no longer
current. Others are just not up to new standards set by new
competitors. It is important to note that there are a few ...

How To Pick A Video Screen For Digital Projectors
Some
of the most exciting advances being made in the world of audio/video
involve the new, smaller, lower-priced projectors, especially
fixed-pixel digital devices such as DLP and D-ILA video projectors. For
ultimate picture quality, the traditional CRT projectors, especially
the most expensive nine-inch CRT projectors, are still the best in
absolute terms. In more real-world applications, D-ILA and DLP
projectors offer the ability to reproduce a far larger and far brighter
picture by means of a less expensive, physically smaller projector that
needs very little maintenance. With all of these advantages, there are
still issues that you need to consider in order to get the biggest and
best picture for your video setup.

Updates To The AudioRevolution.com Best Of Format
In
2001 we decided to list all of the best current products in a specific
category which we are continuing for 2001. This year you’ll note we
have more liberally added in accessory and auxiliary products that
AudioRevolution.com reviewers use in their reference systems. For
example: because of space and editorial limitations we are unlikely to
do a full feature review on a product like the Terk TV55 antenna but we
did mention it significantly in the Sony HD100 review. In this year’s
Best of, the Terk is eligible for an award.

Mark Cuban may be the only person you and I can think of who not only made billions of dollars in the dotcom boom but actually kept it. Upon selling Broadcast.com to Yahoo, he bucked up for the Dallas Mavericks NBA franchise, immediately adding an enthusiasm and an air of success that Cuban is famous for in all of his ventures.
Now that Cuban has the Mavericks making the playoffs, he is back to his entrepreneurial ways with a new sports-driven HDTV network on DirecTV called HDNet (channel 199). HDNet broadcasts high-quality, native HDTV programming, including live NHL and regular season baseball games, along with upcoming Olympic coverage, extreme sports and much more. With Cuban’s touch for turning new technology into gold, AudioRevolution.com wants to see what he sees for HDTV. Here is what he has to say…

In case you haven’t noticed, the high-quality audio disc marketplace is in the middle of a format war, reminiscent of the days of VHS vs. Betamax. But unlike that combat, when the clearly superior technology lost to more powerful marketing and the undeniable power of porn, this time it is much less clear which technology is superior, and even less easy to guess who will win. But while the war goes on, we consumers are the losers.
Several years ago, there was talk about the need for a new, high-quality audio disc (HQAD) format that would overcome the limitations of the CD. An obvious physical basis for the format is the Digital Versatile Disc – DVD – which has the high-density storage capability required to get super-quality audio on a disc with a respectable playing time, along the same lines as ...
