This fourth season of “Seinfeld” has been called its breakthrough year, because it coincided with the show’s graduation from cult favorite to pop culture mainstay. If you’re a Seinfeld-head, this 24-episode box set is filled with (to borrow a network phrase) numerous must-see Seinfeld moments. At the same time, it’s still a little hard to imagine how such an edgy comedy ever became essential around-the-water-cooler-talk material. But against all odds, it did.

Based on Francine Pascal's bestselling books, "Sweet Valley High: The
Complete First Season" gathers the episodes that brought the stories of
the Wakefield twins to television. Identical twins Jessica and
Elizabeth Wakefield, though resembling each other, are totally
different in their attitudes toward life, friends, and goals. Jessica
is all about hot guys and getting through school and stressful
situations with the least amount of work on her part. On the flip side
of the coin, Elizabeth is goal-driven and is always volunteering for
causes and organizations. Joined by a gathering of friends and
lightweight problems, except for the three-part kidnapping story at the
end of the season, Jessica and Elizabeth get through ...

Isn’t this the way it always goes? A TV series gets better and better,
finally hits its stride so that practically every episode rocks, it
show flashes of genuine genius – and it gets cancelled. In the case of
“Angel,” this is particularly bewildering, as in its fifth season
(2003-2004), the show was enjoying its best ratings ever, was doing
great for the WB in its Wednesday night berth, had cut its budget
(which makes its increased quality that much more notable) and had a
slew of killer episodes.
Ah, well, such are the mysteries of television. At least the episodes
are now available on DVD, a good thing ...

The sixth season of “Highlander: The Series” is a highly mixed bag.
Only 13 episodes long, it contains an unfortunate ratio of average (and
even sub-average) material to good stuff. On the other hand, the good
stuff here is very good indeed – some of it is in fact great. Factor in
the multitude of episode-specific supplements in this eight-disc boxed
set and you’ve got an unavoidable purchase for any fan of the show or
even anyone who wants some resonant and original moments of TV.

The final season of the original Star Trek series is overall weaker in
some ways than the first two seasons, most notably in some of the
writing, but apart from some artifactual junk, it looks just as good as
the first two seasons on DVD. The menus in particular are cool,
starting out mostly on the bridge and including some fun animation that
makes use of the various controls on the set. Also included are the
good ol’ sound effects we’ve all come to know and love.
