Home Video, 1995 MPAA rating: R starring: Julia Roberts, Dennis Quaid, Robert Duvall, Gena Rowlands, Kyra Sedgwicke, Brett Cullen, Haley Aull, Anne Shropshire, Muse Watson release year: 1995 film rating: Three and a half stars reviewed by: Bill Warren Because of an incomplete-seeming script (by Callie Khouri), SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT never quite jells, despite a fine cast, some good dialog and excellent production values. Although the ending is emotionally satisfying on a basic level, it still leaves you wanting more than the film provides.

He was spotted by a teacher in the film division, who asked him to speak at a class. Sure, said Hoffman. On the day of the class, the teacher introduced Hoffman, and asked how many people in the class had seen "The Graduate."

This is both surprising, because the movie is intelligent, honest and sincere, and hardly surprising at all, since it's also slow-paced, talky and ultimately not as involving as it keeps promising to be. Jesse (Ethan Hawke) is a college-age American morosely at loose ends in Europe. He went to Spain to stay with his girlfriend only to find she's dumped him for someone else. He's been wandering about Europe, and as the movie opens, is on a train to Vienna to catch a plane back to the States at dawn the next ...

However, "Mr. Wonderful" is so well done, and wisely gives each of the leads a thoroughly reasonable alternative main squeeze, that after a while, you begin to hope (not just expect) that they will get back together -- and finally begin to fear that they won't. This kind of sweet anxiety for fictional characters is simply delightful.

Not only does it come with a host of the customary "special edition" goodies that accompany many high-end prestige releases, but it has a bundle of DVD-ROM features as well. These include the option of comparing and contrasting key scenes in ‘Mail’ with those from two previous films based on the same subject matter, ‘The Shop Around the Corner’ and ‘In The Good Old Summertime,’ the ability to go straight to a favorite song in the film and copies of all the emails the characters send to each other in their email romance. There are even links to online chat rooms and AOL has its own ...
