“The Pacifier” was written by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant as a
vehicle for Jackie Chan. If Chan, who has a light comedic touch, had
starred, the movie would most likely have been a lot more entertaining
than it is. Of course, Adam Shankman probably still would have
directed, so all bets are off. Shankman has no discernible style, no
signs of skill at comedy; “The Pacifier” looks very much like an
expanded episode of a fairly dull and ordinary sitcom.

Ever wonder where that peculiar, cheerful-to-the-point-of-being-scary
song "The Candy Man" originated? No, it wasn’t written as the theme for
the horror movie of that name – although, come to think of it, that
would have been appropriately alarming. No, the tune was composed for
"Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," an offbeat 1971 musical
factory based on Roald Dahl’s children’s book "Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory."

When the Oscar buzz started surround comedic actor Jamie Foxx for his
portrayal of gospel/R&B Legend Ray Charles in the Taylor
Hackford-directed film “Ray,” the Foxx bandwagon kicked into high gear.
Foxx was the focus of hundreds of entertainment news reports leading up
to the Oscars and the producers of the Barbara Walters interview
specials and the execs at ABC were so sure Foxx would take home Oscar
gold that they slated an interview with him to run after the airing of
the awards show.
With Foxx taking the award for best male actor in a leading role this
year, it was no surprise that memories of his past have resurfaced in a
big way. “In Living Color,” a show that Foxx was a ...

Wow. For those of you out there who can’t get enough of reality
television and also for those of you who really can’t stand it, there
is something for both of you in this latest offering from the people at
National Lampoon. Ostensibly this is a collection of failed reality
shows that no network would air or even buy. As a small disclaimer,
there is never any indication whether these are the actual pitch demos
or not, but no one in them is recognizable and perhaps the only thing
that even makes this an issue is the sheer ridiculous nature of the
featured programs. In other words, it seems, sadly, that these are all
real and not faked by the goofballs at National Lampoon.

Labor strife in a pajama factory doesn't seem like a promising basis
for a musical comedy, but The Pajama Game is wonderful, just wonderful.
Bright, funny, colorful, it has an appealing cast, terrific songs (at
least one, "Hey There," is a standard), and lively choreography by Bob
Fosse. This really is the kind of movie they don't make any more; when
musicals do turn up these days, they're mostly on television, mostly
remakes, and mostly rather lifeless. The Pajama Game bursts at the
seams with life and vigor.
