Ward DVD Release Year: 2006 film rating: Five Stars sound/picture rating: Five Stars reviewed by: Mel Odom “The Avengers” began life as a comic book in 1963 in the able hands of comics legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The original team consisted of Thor, Iron Man, Ant-Man, Wasp and the Hulk, five of the biggest stars of Marvel’s relaunch of costumed heroes. At that point, Lee wanted to slip a book into the publishing schedule that was guaranteed to be a hit, and what better way than to pump up the sales by including everyone’s favorite heroes? Only three issues, later in # 4, Lee and Kirby brought back Captain America, who became the flagship superhero for the line for years, and still remains so today.

Based on the novel by Felix Salten, the original film told the story of Bambi, a young deer who was the son of the Prince of the Forest, who would one day take his place as the natural leader and protector of the forest creatures. In the original movie, Bambi’s greatest tragedy was when he lost his mother to hunters. After her death, he was raised by his father, a point that was primarily glossed over quickly in the first movie to move Bambi into the spring when he grew his horns and met Faline, the young deer whom he fell in love with and fought for. “Bambi II” deals ...

Computer graphic animation is a technique that’s currently faddishly popular, but it’s not the technique that has made the Pixar movies so good—it’s the people who make them. And “Toy Story 2” is one of their best, a movie so good that it would approach sublime if it weren’t also so down to Earth and ingratiating. It’s the rare sequel that’s better than the original.

title: Worldspirit   studio: Magnetic Presence MPAA rating: NR starring: Alex Grey, Kenji Williams DVD release year: 2004 film rating: Three-and-a-Half Stars sound/picture rating: Four Stars reviewed by: Jeff Fish This DVD release is a mixture of many art forms intermingling with one another. It’s one part visual art exhibit, one part performance art, one part spoken word/poetry reading and one part New Age music concert. The way these all fit together is through the incredible visual art of Alex Grey, mixed with his words and put to an amazing live soundtrack from Kenji Williams. To be upfront, I don’t think this release is for everyone.

title: VeggieTales: Lord Of The Beans function popUp(URL,NAME) { amznwin=window.open(URL,NAME,'location=yes,scrollbars=yes,status=yes,toolbar=yes,resizable=yes,width=380,height=450,screenX=10,screenY=10,top=10,left=10'); amznwin.focus();} document.open(); document.write(""); document.close(); <br> studio: Big Idea, Inc. MPAA rating: NR voices: Lisa Vischer, Phil Vischer DVD release year: 2005 film rating: Two Stars sound/picture: Three Stars reviewed by: Dan MacIntosh With “Lord of the Beans,” the VeggieTales people appear to have run out of original ideas. This animated series, which started out by telling Bible stories with vegetable-themed characters, is beginning to look more like a blockbuster movie parody machine instead. If it isn’t careful, Big Idea could turn into a second-rate Mad Magazine – albeit with morals and without the naughty bits. Its prior release, “Minnesota Cuke,” hinted at this company’s dwindling creative juices with its relatively lame “Raiders of the Lost Ark” take-off. But the humor and story well is almost completely dry here, and that’s a sad thing.
