"Jurassic Park III" is one of those movies that makes you really
appreciate the DVD format. This is not simply because of the sound,
although the DTS track certainly asserts itself vividly when the
dinosaurs roar. This third tale of dinosaurs menacing island visitors
breaks down so completely into cool, rewatchable sequences (these would
be the ones with the dinosaurs) and material that’s not very
interesting the first time and downright dull thereafter (this would be
the rest of the movie) that the "Scene Selection" feature is a true
blessing.

Some movies become so entrenched in your frame of reference that it’s
almost a shock to realize that they haven’t been around all that long.
"Desperado" was released 1995 (the copyright on the packaging says
1997; but it’s unclear where some elements have been changed from the
theatrical original or whether this is simply an error), but I feel as
though I’ve been using it as my over-the-top action gold standard a lot
longer. Director/writer/editor Robert Rodriguez, in his second
theatrical feature film, has crafted something so insanely energetic
and inventive that most other entries in this genre – even the
big-budget ones, let alone movies in "Desperado’s" relatively
low-budget range – can stand up to the comparison.

Even bigger, louder, more effects and action-laden than its 1999
predecessor, "The Mummy Returns" is amazingly good fun. This is an
instance of a sequel that improves on the original. In fact, even more
than "The Mummy," "The Mummy Returns" feels like a worthy successor to
the big, adrenaline-pumping yet tongue-in-cheek adventure banner held
high by "Raiders of the Lost Ark."

Three years ago, big-screen movie heroes in general were doing well –
they always do – but legendary do-gooders were suffering. Is there
anyone, anywhere, for whom Kevin Costner was the ideal (or even a
remotely possible) Robin Hood? Was Charlie Sheen really anybody’s idea
of a French Musketeer?

As the title basically states, "Spy Kids" is aimed at children, but
it's also very entertaining for adults. Which makes it something of a
pity that Dimension Home Video's DVD release has virtually no extras. A
commentary track, a making-of documentary, some words by
writer-producer-director Robert Rodriguez would have been very welcome;
kids wouldn't have cared, and adults would have gotten more out of the
disc, which is otherwise up to today's standards.
