Created in 1983 and surviving only two years on his initial run, Inspector Gadget, the bumbling bionic police detective aided by his niece Penny and her dog Brain, has nevertheless maintained a solid visibility quotient for young viewers. Spin-off series, as well as a cartoon movie, have been filmed about the character. “Inspector Gadget 2” is Walt Disney’s second attempt to make the series a viable live-action success as well as cartoon hit. Comedian Don Adams, arguably best known for his equally bumbling portrayal of Agent Maxwell Smart on the hit television show, “Get Smart”, first gave voice to the bionic detective who keeps a plethora of devices concealed in his hat and trench coat. The film follows Matty Demaret (Barry Pepper), the son of New Jersey mob under-boss Benny "Chains" Demaret (Dennis Hopper). Matty gives up on making a life for himself in the straight legitimate business world, and tries to win his father's approval and respect by proving he and his crew can handle a simple milk run.

And that can only mean one thing: the world is in danger. An evil villain has hatched a nefarious plot. The tech from the first movie will be even wilder than ever. All of those things, and more, happen in “Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams.”

Jackson release year: 2002 film rating: Five Stars sound/picture: Five Stars reviewed by: Mel Odom Take one of the hottest male action stars to debut in the last few years, add in a pithy collection of extreme sports stunts, spice with plenty of macho attitude and tough guy posturing, garnish with a bevy of beautiful women, throw in the kind of spy story that has kept a franchise alive for 30 years, then shake well till completely stirred: “XXX” is done to near-perfection for the action crowd.

Director Sam Raimi, probably the ideal choice for this project given both his zesty style and his love of the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko source material, finds a rather magical middle ground between heightened drama and straight emotion in this superhero original tale.
