Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (3D/2D) (1993) “Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas” is not one of my particular favs.  I know there are tons of Burton fans and fans of this film out there.  It just doesn’t suit me.  I applaud the stop-motion animation and the creativity, but it just doesn’t strike a good chord with me.  I find it creepy and a bit unsettling.  I’m sure this is of the filmmakers’ intentions, but it goes as far for me as to make this film non-enjoyable. This film has gone through several releases so I’m sure that you all know about the premise of the film.  For more information on the foundation of this film visit the previous Blu-ray review here. This review is of the Blu-ray 3D release of the film.  All manners of this release are identical to the 2008 2-Disc Blu-ray release of the film which ...

Prom (2011) “Prom” is, to put it mildly, a watered-down teen dramatic comedy.  There is nothing original here and nothing to really teach teens.  The story is about the abysmal life of high school and the juvenile problematic relationships of youths. The film follows a few teens of different backgrounds and different clicks.  Nova (Aimee Teegarden) is the primary character and she is the popular nerd of the school.  She is the class president and the chair of the committee for senior prom.  At the same time she is still popular.  When the carelessness of a womanizing lacrosse player results in the burning of the shed containing all the prom decorations, Nova is paired with trouble young man, Jesse (Thomas McDonell) to rebuild all the decorations within three weeks. The two of them are at each other’s throats at the beginning and begin to ...

Something Borrowed (2011) Bottom line first.  If you love films then you are going to want to stay away from this one.  However, I will admit there are some intriguing moments.  This makes for a great date night movie, but beyond that, yikes! “Something Borrowed” steals every ounce of its misery from other romantic comedies.  And I do mean everything.  Even Kate Hudson is hard to distinguish from her roles in “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days” and “Fool’s Gold.” I keep seeing commercials announcing the release of this title on Blu-ray is it says the critics are in agreement that this is “the best romantic comedy of the year” and “highly original.”  Someone was smoking pot when that was decided?  I haven’t heard one person, let along a critic call this film highly original.” “Something Borrowed” rehashes the plot of a man who ...

Big Lebowski, The (1998) Film: You must have been living under a rock if you have never heard of “The Big Lebowski.”  From its initial releases the film became an instant cult classic.  This is perhaps the Coen brothers most notable film, and certainly their funniest.  And finally, the Dude has arrived on Blu-ray. For an in-depth review of the film, visit the HD DVD review of the film here. This Blu-ray release is presented in a Limited Edition, digibook style case.  The book contains several pages in glossy color providing information on the creation and impact of the film.  Trivia questions are also within the pages. Video: The video quality of this Blu-ray release is the same as that of its HD DVD counterpart.  The image quality is quite natural with the film grain intact, yielding great textures.  Colors are solid, never slipping into the overly vibrant realm.  ...

Fox Hound And The Hound, The / The Fox And The Hound II (1981/2006) Probably Disney’s least beloved classic, “The Fox And The Hound” makes its Blu-ray debut.  The film went through numerous development challenges beginning in 1977.  Animators came and went, studio politics stood in the way, and so much more.  When the film finally made its debut in 1981, it just didn’t have the panache that early Disney films had. The tale of “The Fox And The Hound” wants to be the story of “Bambi,” but tries to be different.  In fact, were the script development to be perfected, the film most likely would have been another “Bambi.”  Alas, the plot here is simple and straightforward, but lacks the Disney emotion.  The story and character development picks up a bit in the latter part of the film, but never reaches its heart-wrenching potential.  As with early Disney animations, “The Fox And The Hound” ...
