Nissan announced that satellite radio systems will be available in select 2003 model Nissan and Infiniti division vehicles beginning later this year, offering customers a choice of the XM and Sirius satelite radio providers. This comes days after an announcement from VW-Audi to offer the same service in 2003.

Volkswagen of America, Inc., which also encompasses Audi of America, today announced it has signed distribution agreements with Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio, to offer Volkswagen and Audi customers in the United States a choice of satellite radio services in the coming model years. XM and Sirius are each broadcasting a satellite radio service, offering 100 channels of digital audio entertainment coast to coast for a monthly fee currently under $10. Specific vehicle installation plans and timing will be announced separately by Volkswagen and Audi in the future. Car audio is the focus of much of the attention of the up-and-coming satellite radio industry who is quietly positioning itself to compete with traditional broadcast radio. In one of the fastest technology rollouts ever at General Motors, XM Satellite Radio will be offered on 23 models this fall -- from the Chevy Cavalier to the Cadillac Escalade EXT. In November 2001, GM became the first auto manufacturer in the world to offer XM as a factory-installed option on 2002 Cadillac DeVilles and Sevilles. Beginning this fall, the start of the '03 model year, the XM option will be available on the following models:

Then tune your satellite radio (what you didn’t get one for Christmas?) into XM Channel 140 this week for the Fiesta Bowl, The Orange Bowl, The Sugar Bowl and The Rose Bowl on ESPN radio. ESPN Radio's BCS coverage begins with The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl at 4:30 p.m. ET January 1, pitting the Colorado Buffaloes against the Oregon Ducks from Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona.

On Tuesday, November 20th, XM Satellite Radio, the first nationwide satellite radio service, will broadcast the world premieres of a previously unreleased 1963 performance of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr., "The Rat Pack Live at the Sands;" and the first official collection of 18 of the Rat Pack's signature recordings from 1952-64 on one album -- both from Capitol Records.
