'Arrested Development' Finally Confirmed for May 26th
We tend to focus more on high-end gear than individual shows here on AV Rev but there are some things that you just can't ignore, like the cult classic known as 'Arrested Development.' The show is finally returning on May 26th, but not to TV. The show is exclusive to Netflix. This marks a potential for big change in the industry, and the first major show to move from TV to the internet. Not only does it mean a possible change in the way business is done, but it gives hope to fans of shows cancelled on traditional TV channels. If the show is a success on 'Netflix,' we could start to see some big changes. I

Verizon Wants to Pay for Cable Channels Based on Viewing Time
Verizon has a new plan in the works that would reduce the cost of cable channels for them, and hopefully for us too.  The company is in talks to pay for channels based on viewing time, instead of in blocks like they do currently.

The last update to Netflix streaming allowed many more people to access HD streams, but users also found that it brought down the overall quality of HD streaming, making the picture softer and less defined.  Netflix has responded by creating a new tier that they're calling Super HD.  It doesn't take you past 1080p, but it does offer better video and audio for those that have nice fast internet connections.  That's not the only requirement though – the improved HD is only available to a very limited number of people.

The CALM Act is Now in Effect – Commercials are Getting Quieter
It's finally here!  As of today, the CALM act is officially in effect.  For those not familiar, the main thrust of CALM is to ensure that commercials are not louder than the shows that they're airing with.  In other words, no longer will you be blasted with a crazy loud commercial for sponges or something when you've just experienced a really sweet or sad moment in your favorite show.

'House of Cards' Trailer Gives us the First Look at Netflix's Big Original Series
The folks at Netflix have been putting a lot of money into content acquisition in hopes of keeping old subscribers while gaining new ones, but it's not just other people's movies that they want on their service.  Recently Netflix has been putting money into original programming, and the first big exclusive is on its way.
