The UltraCube 10 is Paradigm’s latest addition to its lineup of high-performance subwoofers and like the name suggests its compact measuring in at 12.8x11.5x11.5 inches (HxWxD). Even though it is small, makers say they have packed the sub with a level of technology and performance usually reserved for pricier subs. Paradigm’s Super Class D amplifier is built in to the subwoofer and it features auto on/off, thermal protection and electrical shorting protection. With outputs of up to 1500 watts Dynamic Peak and 650 watts RMS Sustained the amplifier can handle most of what today’s home theaters can throw its way. A ten-inch down-firing mineral-filled co-polymer polypropylene cone that delivers more than 1.5 inches of peak-to-peak cone travel handles the extended bass reproduction. Dual nine-inch radiators reportedly keep the UltraCube 10 solid, stable and free from unwanted resonances and vibrations. The versatile subwoofer fits in many different places and is available now in black ash for $799.

Energy is offering three all new subwoofers as part of its Reference Connoisseur series. The RC-SUB 8, RC-SUB 10 and RC-SUB 12 all feature the same rosenut or cherry veneer finishes as the other speakers in the series, as well as a high-gloss piano black lacquer, to blend in both sonically and visually with any other Energy unit.

The ContraBass is a massive in-wall subwoofer designed to shake only the air and not the wall in which it’s mounted. Conventional in-wall subwoofers might have a limited output in order to prevent vibrations that can cause buzzing or rattling, damaging wallboards and internal pipes and wires over time. But Sunfire has put their anti-shake technology to work in the ContraBass, counteracting the forces generated by its High-Pressure, High-Back-EMF output. The technology uses an amplifier-driven counterweight system which cancels linear and rotational vibration modes to decrease vibrations by over 10dB to give users great bass without taking down any walls.

The True Subwoofer Super Junior is most impressive for its size; in nine-inch cabinets, Sunfire manages to pack in a powerful 1,500 RMS and dual 8-inch long throw, hi-velocity, proprietary drivers. While a new version of the subwoofer is now available, it still retains its most distinctive qualities. It achieves outputs of more than 108dB and features Sunfire’s Tracking Downconverter technology that provides high-current power to the drivers through a ‘just-in-time’ approach that generates little heat. This technology is what makes it possible to pack performance in a small, 29-pound package.
