A 2007 class action lawsuit against Toshiba has been decided.  The settlement requires that Toshiba pay out more than $1 million to about 265,000 persons.  The lawsuit claims that Toshiba DLP HDTVs were failing prematurely and requiring the consumer to purchase replacement lamps for the projection system.  The replacement lamps were susceptible to the same issue, requiring even more replacement lamps.

Texas Instruments promises a new DLP technology coming soon.  The new creation aims at combining 2-D, 3-D, and dual mode viewing presentations into a single DLP HDTV.  Dual mode would allow two separate video/audio signals to be present on the same TV at the same time.

Pacific Media Associates, global market information experts on large-screen displays, reports that January unit sales of rear projection HDTVs in North America outpaced December’s record mark by 1.5 percent. By contrast, consumer flat panel sales for the same period declined by 20 percent. Their monthly RPTV Sell-Through Tracking Service also shows that the average street price tumbled nearly 10 percent in January.

DLP, LCD, and SXRD Rear Projection HDTV models grow in sales and popularity as the fall approaches. Pacific Media Associates, global market information experts on large-screen displays, reports that unit sales for rear projection HDTVs in North America reversed the slumping sales figures from earlier in the summer, and jumped 30 percent for units and revenues in August. Their Rear-Projection TV Sell-Through Tracking Service also shows that while inventories rose by 13 percent in August, the Days Supply Index fell as a result of the robust sales.
