Plasma Display Coalition Demands End to Misinformation
From early on in the HDTV format wars, plasma has gotten a bad rap that just won’t go away.  Early problems with burn in have resulted in wide spread misconceptions about the current state of plasma displays, and certainly resulted in a loss of sales for plasma television manufacturers.  Currently, a trend towards energy conservation in California has pegged plasma televisions as wasteful and the result may be a ban on sales of plasma televisions in the state.  The Plasma Display Coalition is looking to change that.

Runco Announces New Plasmas
Runco announced recently that it will be expanding its plasma displays.  This new series will include 5 CinemaWall and PlasmaWall uses Optical Path Alignment technology and DHD3 video processing.  All of the new displays are engineered to display deepest blacks, high brightness and contrast ratio.

Plasma HDTV Prices Falling
Compared to LCD HDTVs, plasma HDTVs are becoming cheaper by the minute.  A report from the Wall Street Journal claims that a 50-inch plasma is, on average, $300 less expensive than the same size LCD.  Part of this price drop is improved manufacturing technology for plasma screens, but perhaps an even larger contributor is competition and falling demand for plasmas.

Panasonic Ramping up LIHD Giveaway
Members of Panasonic’s LivingInHD community, and anyone who signs up for a free account by the end of this month, have a chance to win a Viera V10 Series, 54-inch, 1080p plasma HDTV.  The contest runs until July 31st, and current members of LivingInHD are already entered, and will earn one additional entry for every person that they refer to join the community.

LG Launching HDTVs with built-in Netflix
Two new HDTVs are now shipping from LG that include built-in Netflix capabilities.  The 47LH50 (SRP: $2,100) 47-inch LCD and 50PS80 (SRP: $2,100) 50-inch plasma include software that accesses Netflix video streaming services without the need for any external box, only an internet connection.  Both TVs are 1080p Full HD.
