Following in Panasonic's footsteps, it appears that Samsung is ceasing production of its plasma display line. Though they offer many benefits over LCDs, the technology has failed to catch on with consumers.
Just a year after Panasonic decided to cut back on television production in general, the company may be abandoning plasma completely. Panasonic has announced that over the next year, plasma production will stop at its main plant. Over the next three years, production will slow even more.
Sure, the 4K trend seems to be taking off, but Panasonic wants to go a step further. They’re hoping for an 8K standard by 2020 and their new set makes a strong case for it. It’s a 145 inch plasma with a resolution that gives you an image that’s nearly life-like.
