Following in Panasonic's footsteps, it appears that Samsung is ceasing production of its plasma display line. Though they offer many benefits over LCDs, the technology has failed to catch on with consumers.

Panasonic May be Ditching Plasma
Just a year after Panasonic decided to cut back on television production in general, the company may be abandoning plasma completely.  Panasonic has announced that over the next year, plasma production will stop at its main plant. Over the next three years, production will slow even more.

Sure, the 4K trend seems to be taking off, but Panasonic wants to go a step further.  They’re hoping for an 8K standard by 2020 and their new set makes a strong case for it.  It’s a 145 inch plasma with a resolution that gives you an image that’s nearly life-like.

Panasonic Reveals Their New Pet Project – A 145 Inch 8K Plasma
Panasonic has created another drool-worthy set that we'll unfortunately never get our hands on.  It's a 145 inch plasma with an 8K resolution.  CTO Hideo Toyoda says that no matter how close you are or far away you get, you'll be tricked into thinking you're watching reality. "It doesn't use 3D technology," he says, "but the picture is so realistic, you feel truly immersed in the scene."

Bang & Olufsen Bring Their 65 Inch 3D Plasma Stateside
TVs don't get much more high end than Bang & Olufsen.  The company makes sets that are built as much for picture quality as for the aesthetics of the TVs themselves.  After all, who wants to ugly up a perfectly nice room with a less than swanky looking TV?  Bang & Olufsen's new TV is slim and the aluminum profiles are designed to accentuate but not outshine the screen.
