Napster, the newest buzz in the world of online music, is causing controversy; it has record companies and many artists up in arms. What is Napster, you ask? It is a program written for Windows that is essentially a search engine for compressed MP3 music files. Currently Napster is not available in a Mac version but can be used with Virtual PC and Linux. A Mac version called Macster is also now available.

Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes will launch a major concert tour this summer kicking off June 24 in Chicago at the New World Music Theater. Last summer Page and the Black Crowes teamed up for a sold-out six date tour and have since released the Internet-only album, JIMMY PAGE AND THE BLACK CROWES LIVE AT THE GREEK available exclusively at http://www.Musicmaker.com. This should be an excellent opportunity for fans of both Led Zeppelin and the Black Crowes to enjoy a healthy dose of the best material from both groups. The Crowes are self professed students of Led Zeppelin and in a recent interview, Jimmy Page told Rolling Stone magazine that he was amazed at how well the Crowes knew Led Zeppelin’s songs.

At a recent to the trade only presentation, consumer electronics giant Sony displayed what consumers can expect to see in the next few months. For the entry level home theater enthuisist on a budget, Sony has created the new DAV-S300 DVD Dream System . This 5.1 channel system features a DVD/CD player, built in Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, 5 micro sattelite speakers and a subwoofer. Instillation should be easy for beginners due to Sony utilizng a color color coded speaker connection system. Designed for smaller living spaces such as apartments or dorm rooms don’t be surprised if you see the $600 Dream System on the wish list for many starving college students this year.

Faroudja, Inc, the AV industry’s leader in high performance video processing technologies, recently announced the successful resolution of a patent lawsuit with DWIN electroincs. Faroudja had alleged that DWIN Electronics, Inc.’s home theater line multiplier products infringed a patent held by Faroudja and a patent licensed exclusively to Faroudja for the relevant field of use. DWIN and Faroudja mutually agreed to maintain the specific technical and financial terms of the settlment in confidence.
