Sales of Digital Televisions Up In A Down Economy
Factory-to-dealer sales of digital television (DTV) monitors and television (monitors with integrated tuners) totaled 227,349 units in the second quarter and topped $406 million according to figures released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). June sales, in particular, exceeded the 90,000 unit mark. The jump in June figures represents the third consecutive month of sales growth in 2001 and an 82 percent increase from June 2000 sales. Sales of DTV sets and monitors in June totaled 90,973 units, or dollar sales of more than $159 million, in a month when the average unit selling price had dropped by almost $200.
