ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS (Home Vision/Criterion) is director Douglas Sirk’s 1955 melodrama starring Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson. Aspect ratio is 1.85:1; sound format is English Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono, with English subtitles. Extras include a BBC documentary on Sirk, Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s illustrated essay on Sirk and a stills archive. The film predates MPAA ratings. THE CAVEMAN’S VALENTINE (Universal Studios Home Video), released theatrically earlier this year, is director Kasi Lemmons slightly hallucinogenic mystery about a homeless man (Samuel L. Jackson) investigating a murder. Colm Feore also stars. Aspect ratio is widescreen; sound format is English DTS and English Dolby Digital 5.1, with English subtitles. MPAA rating is R (language, sexuality, some violence).

HDTV received a huge boost this week thanks to a partnership between CBS Television and EchoStar Communications Corporation. The two companies have inked a deal to provide select DISH Network subscribers with East and West Coast HDTV feeds of CBS Television’s programming. CBS has been at the forefront of providing programming in HDTV and are currently, broadcasting 17 out of 18 (94%) of its primetime dramas and comedies in high definition.

Now that Napster has been shut down for the time being by Judge Marilyn Hall Patel predicated on their ability to completely filter out unauthorized material, LimeWire has seen a huge increase in popularity. LimeWire is a free application that allows users to access the Gnutella network and easily swap files peer to peer, rather than through a centralized server like Napster.

MartinLogan’s has just announced the release of their new Aeon reference loudspeaker system. With a footprint of less than one square foot, the Aeon is priced at $2,995 and features a state-of-the-art new woofer, next generation enclosure materials and MartinLogan’s ESL transducer. MartinLogan claims that at the crossover point, the Aeon’s woofer distortion level is so low it rivals that of the electrostatic panel.

DTS Entertainment recording artists, Larisa Stow and David Alan who both have new DVD-Audio releases now arriving in record stores all over the world, under the DTS Entertainment 5.1 music label, will be performing live in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, July 15, 2001. The event will be held at the Valley Cultural Center in Woodland Hills from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
