Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment has announced the October 9 launch of "The Superbit Collection." Superbit titles feature a special high bit rate digital encoding process which optimizes video quality while offering a choice of both DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. By reallocating space on the disc normally used for value-added content, Superbit DVDs can be encoded at double their normal bit rate while maintaining full compatibility with the DVD video format. The result is picture quality that provides outstanding detail which complements the performance of the latest progressive DVD video players.

When Microsoft releases their new operating system Windows XP on October 25, 2001 every copy will come with the new David Byrne song "Like Humans Do" preloaded in order to showcase the new version of Windows Media Player. Originaly released on Byrne’s new album Look Into the Eyeball, the song will automatically play as a digital audio track, complete with album art and lyrics, the first time Windows Media Player is launched on a users computer after installing Windows XP.

AKIRA – SPECIAL EDITION (Pioneer Video) is a two-disc release of the 1989 anime classic about a troubled near-future world, directed by Katsuhiro Otomo. Aspect ratio is 1.78:1; sound formats are Japanese Dolby Digital 4.1 and English Dolby Digital 5.1, with English subtitles. Extras include a new English translation of the dialogue, a making-of featurette, an interview with director Otomo from 1988, a documentary on restoring "Akira" for DVD, a featurette on the soundtrack and a glossary.
