B&W Loudspeakers, a leader in home entertainment and music systems recently announced the revamped lineup of their CDM family of loudspeakers and has added three additions to their CASA family of components for whole-house, custom-installation audio systems. Coming in September 2000, the CDM line features the new top-of-the-line floor standing CDM 9NT loudspeaker. The CDM NT Series is comprised of five refined models, including a home-theater center-channel, an all-new narrow profile surround loudspeaker design, as well as three full-range stereo pairs. The CDM 9NT incorporates technologies derived from the B&W's Nautilus family. All five CDM NT designs except for the surround-specific CDM SNT feature tapered-tube tweeter loading and a free-standing tweeter "pod." College students have recently found a new past time; downloading songs on Napster. The file sharing service that has been under fire from major record labels and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has caught on so big with the college set that 34 percent of American universities have banned the use of Napster according to a report from the technology market research company, Gartner Group.

To date, a major challenge for the Sony/Philips Direct Stream Digital (DSD) one-bit recording system at the heart of Super Audio CD (SACD) concerns the way it has carried out the digital signal processing (DSP) operations that is required for most modern digital recording and mixing, especially multi-track. Until now, this has meant converting the one-bit DSD data stream into something very much akin to the Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) technology it seeks to replace. DSP techniques rely on performing operations on digital words, and if your audio is a single-bit DSD data stream, it won't work.
