In an attempt to bring their 5.1 CD and DVD-audio titles to the masses, DTS Entertainment will be going on a nationwide tour to allow people to audition these titles. A specially equipped bus with a 5.1-channel surround sound audio system provided by Pioneer and JBL will stop at hundreds if not thousands of music retail stores, to demonstrate the DTS sonic experience that 5.1 Digital Surround provides to music enthusiasts.

Utah Senator Orrin Hatch, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee announced yesterday that he will hold hearings to determine if the online MP3 swapping service Napster truly violates copyright law. A federal court ruled that Napster must stop its large base of users from trading copyrighted material this past Monday.

Perpetual Technologies, known for their cutting-edge digital audio products, introduced a new product designed to improve your AC power: the Digital Power Cell, or DPC. The DPC regenerates the electrical signal that you get from your wall and uses amplification to create a nearly perfect signal to feed your gear. The DPC, much like the very popular PS Audio Power Plant products, also offers multiwave technology. However, unlike PS Audio, the Perpetual can be rack-mounted. It uses a digital amplifier technology that reduces operational heat. In contrast, analog amplifier designs require significant cooling and heat synchs. The DPC is to be priced at $799 and will ship starting May, 2001. Perpetual Technologies has a new digital-to-analog converter and interpolator in their product line-up called the P5. THE ADVENTURES OF ROCKY & BULLWINKLE (Universal Home Entertainment), released theatrically last year, is a mixture of live-action, traditional animation and 3-D animation, starring Robert De Niro, Jason Alexander, Rene Russo and Piper Perabo in a tale of the late Jay Ward’s classic animated Moose and Squirrel set loose in the modern world. Des McAnuff directs. Aspect ratio is 1.85:1; sound formats are English DTS and English Dolby Digital 5.1, with English subtitles. Extras include a making-of featurette, production notes and DVD-ROM features. ALICE’S RESTAURANT (MGM) is director Arthur Penn’s 1969 adaptation of Arlo Guthrie’s famous story/song. The film stars Guthrie, Pat Quinn and James Broderick. Aspect ratio is widescreen; sound format is digital (no further details available), with English, Spanish and French subtitles. Extras include an audio commentary from Guthrie. This is the previously unreleased R-rated version.

In October of 2000 Rage Against the Machine announced they have parted ways with their lead singer Zach De La Rocha, but the position of Rage singer may not be left vacant for much longer. Rumors have been floating around that B-Real of Los Angeles’ most famous pro-weed rap group Cypress Hill is interested in taking over the mic duties for Rage.
