Will a black felt tip pen defeat Sony Music’s latest CD copy protection system? CNN.com says it does. CNN obtained a copy of the new Celine Dion disc "A New Day has Come" distributed in Europe with much fanfare over how it can’t play in a PC and will crash a Mac. CNN reportedly couldn’t get the CD to play on a PC but then covered the edges of the CD with a black felt tip pen (just like the old days of the green CD Stoplight pens) and voila – the CD played flawlessly in the PC.

In response to Sony and Microsoft dropping the price on their Playstation 2 and X-Box game systems respectively from $299 down to $199, Nintendo has cut the price of their Game Cube 25 percent. The Nintendo Game Cube will now carry a retail price of $149. Despite the fact that it does not feature a DVD-Video player like the PS2 and the X-Box, the Game Cube benefits from blockbuster video game titles like "Super Mario Brothers" and "The Legend of Zelda" and is targeted to a younger audience than the Microsoft and Sony units.

Piega Speakers To Do 2 Live DVD-Audio Demos – NYC and Greensboro Swiss speaker company Piega, the largest selling hi-end speaker company in Switzerland and Russia, along with Sanibel Sound have arranged to do two DVD-Audio demos to highlight how their high performance speakers sound with the best in new surround sound musical material on 24 bit DVD-Audio software. Meridian will be providing the digital electronics with the 800 CD/DVD Player and 861 Reference Surround Controller.

Say good bye to the lame ass elevator music that serenades you at a select number of your local Cineplex for a screening of the latest blockbuster film. A group including Warner Music Group, 5.1 Entertainment, Century Theaters and Dolby are teaming up to bring a 5.1 channel DVD-Audio demonstration to waiting movie goers who have bought tickets for Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. The music will include tunes from Eric Clapton, Buena Vista Social Club, Barenaked Ladies and Dishwalla. The first theater to start such demos will be in Corte Madera, California and the demos will start May 16, 2002.
