Niles Audio Corporation announced the official release of a new HD Radio module (TM-HD/R) for the company’s IntelliControl ICS whole-house distributed audio system. The new module enables IntelliControl ICS users to listen to digital HD Radio broadcasts and the new HD2 multicast channels through their distributed audio system anywhere in the home while viewing HD Radio datacasting – the traffic, news and other station information which accompany HD radio signals – on the system’s wireless iRemote, touchscreens and wall-mounted displays. IntelliControl ICS is the first HD radio-enabled wireless product to display HD radio datacasting on a wireless user interface.

At this year's NAB conference, Coding Technologies and DTS unveiled their combined aacPlus/DTS transcoding solution enabling high-quality 5.1 multi-channel sound for HDTV broadcasting at a fraction of the typically required transmission bandwidth. The new solution incorporates the highly efficient MPEG-4 aacPlus audio codec with the well known DTS audio technology available in over 50 million DTS-enabled home theater receivers.

Apple Computer has released a free software update for some iPods that lets listeners set a maximum volume limit. The free update, available for video iPods and all iPod Nano models, also includes a parental lock option. After setting the volume limit, parents can lock the setting with a combination code to prevent children from raising the maximum volume without their knowledge. The move follows a string of news articles and research reports, including a recent hearing in Washington, warning people not to listen to their MP3 players at excessive volume levels for prolonged periods.

Marantz America has just announced the release of “DavED” (Digital Audio via Electrical Distribution). Originally introduced at CES under the prototype name “PLAC”, DAvED (pronounced “David”) is comprised of the Marantz ZR6001SP system, which includes the ZR6001 Audio/Video receiver, and the ZC4001 Client. When combined, these two components make it easier for consumers to set up a multiple room digital audio distribution system in their home by actually running all their favorite music to any room in the house via the existing AC power lines in their home.
