Although still anonymous rumors, the whisperings about Apple’s plan for a new iPod Touch with a microphone and camera are getting louder. No official nod from Apple has verified these rumors, but sources say that some of the manufacturing facilities in China have already begun making prototypes of the iPod Touch with camera and mic.
The NaimUniti “all-in-one” unit includes a CD player, integrated amp, FM tuner, iPod dock, Internet radio, network stream player, music file player and DAC converter. This unit can play a wide range of audio files, from the standard WMA, MP3 and WAV to FLAC, AAC and Apple lossless.
Logitech is preparing to launch the Squeezebox Touch, a modification on the existing Squeezebox with a 4.3 inch color touch-screen. It connects via Wi-fi and also includes integrated stereo speakers. The Touch acts as a controller and integrates into existing systems for online music. The Squeezebox Touch includes support for Apple Lossless, AAC, AIFF, Ogg Vorbis, WMA, FLAC, WAV and MP3.
The Blacknote line of digital media players from Akamai Audio is expanding. Two new tube-equipped players will be joining the lineup. The DSS30 Digital Static Source (SRP: $ 4,400; solid state SRP: $2,876) can play a variety of formats stored on USB sticks, SD memory cards and on the PC through an Ethernet connection.
Vantage’s Digital Music Manager, or DMM-4S, is now shipping after two years of R&D. It offers four-zone/four-source capabilities while it aggregates all digital media connected to the home network. Vantage has also teamed up with vTuner to give users Internet radio access on the DMM-4S to stations they create via vTuner.
