Blu-ray and DVD Sales Rise From Previous Week
Both DVD and Blu-ray sales rose last week over 27 percent from the previous week.  Jumper came in at number one for the week, blowing out the competition.  The Bucket List and National Treasure 2 were numbers two and three, and their sales paled in comparison to Jumper.

DTS, Inc. announced today that they plan to drop the retail price on their catalog of 100 surround sound music titles by as much as 60 percent. Music titles recorded or remixed by DTS into 5.1 surround includes music from the likes of the Eagles, Queen, Eric Clapton and many others.

In the wake of the format war between DVD-Audio and SACD where no side could even come close to claiming any level of victory, the hybrid format of DualDisc (CD on one side and DVD on the other) is suddenly showing signs of life. Yesterday, March 2, a record critic analyst from Clear Channel Radio was on CNN’s Headline News, talking about J-Lo’s new album and how radio-friendly it was. Rebirth, the new album from Jennifer Lopez on Epic Records, is being released as a DualDisc, according to the source from Clear Channel. The significance isn’t a bunch of audiophiles rushing to Tower Records to hear the latest high-resolution surround sound from Jenny from the Block – what is important is that mainstream America is hearing about a new high-performance audio format that is being supported by all four major labels. They are hearing about the video goodies on the disc. With backwards compatibility ...

According to reports on the Internet and releases from a number of high-performance audio companies, the recently released DualDisc software titles are causing problems. The brands that reportedly have troubles with DualDisc are a who’s who of high-end DVD players, including Sony (Europe), Marantz, Mark Levinson, Proceed and Lexicon.

The music industry is showing some signs of a rebound in the first half of 2004, with full-length CD shipments to retail outlets increasing by 10.2 percent, compared to the amount of shipments over the same time period in 2003. This is the first time in five years that the first half of the year has experienced an increase in shipments. DVD music videos and licensed digital downloads also showed impressive growth, according to new data announced today by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
