Two of the most important artists in the Sony Music catalog now have more new music available on SACD. The Miles Davis record, In A Silent Way is a 1969 album recrafted for multi-channel and stereo reproduction. The roster of performers on the record is staggering including: Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul, John McLaughlin, Dave Holland and Tony Williams. Shania Twain’s Come On Over should have been called “Cross On Over” because with over 34,000,000 units sold it makes the Mutt Lange produced the album the highest selling effort by a female artist. In the 5 years since her breakthrough work, Shania married Mutt Lange, had a son, wrote songs for Britney Spears and Michael Bolton (which is always good for the publishing catalog) and now has a new album slated for this fall entitled Up. Strangely, Up is the same title that the also long awaited Peter Gabriel record will be called. The Gabriel record should hit stores shelves Sept. 24, 2002.

Last week, a significant group of AV manufacturers and record labels put together a well-produced course on the possibilities and advantages of the DVD-Audio format with great success. Each and every DVD-Audio-capable component on the market, over 70 at this point, were on display, ranging from $250 cheapie players to Meridian’s mighty 800 priced at $20,000.

In a move similar to that of Warner Music Group, 5.1 Entertainment Group has just announced they are lowering the retail price of DVD-Audio discs on their four labels Immergent, Silverline, MyUtopia and Electromatrix to $17.98, a 25% decrease.

According to his publicist, Peter Gabriel’s first studio record since 1992 will finally hit the streets September 24, 2002 and will be released under the Geffen Records label. Titled UP, Gabriel’s new record keeps with the two letter tradition of his past platinum records: US and SO.
