Rock n' Roll Hall of Famer Graham Nash has been named Surround Music Artist of the Year by the First Annual Surround Music Awards (SMAs) for his DVD-Audio disc Songs for Survivors (DTS Entertainment). The recording, his first solo album in more than 15 years, was actually released on the DVD-Audio format prior to its stereo Compact Disc introduction. Nash will be formally recognized along with the winners of the 11 other Surround Music Award categories in a ceremony hosted by producer Phil Ramone during the Fourth Annual Surround 2002 Conference & Showcase on the evening of December 13 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Ramone will also present the First Surround Pioneer Award to "the Godfather of 5.1 Mixing" Elliot Scheiner. On Tuesday November 26 DTS Entertainment will release of David Crosby and Graham Nash’s surround remix of Another Stoney Evening. This 24/96 multi-channel mix exemplifies how surround sound can re-create “live” concerts by placing the listener right in the middle of the show. This DVD-Audio title features hits like “Déjà Vu,” “Wooden Ships,” “Imagination Man,” “Teach Your Children,” and many other classics performed by the duo.

On the heels of their hugely successful sophomore album “Toxicity,” System of a Down will release their new album titled Steal This Album! this Tuesday, November 26. The disc has no booklet and no artwork except for the title scribbled across the CD and will be sold in clear jewel cases. The album will be comprised of original, unreleased past material from system.

AudioRevolution.com reported BMG’s support for the DVD-Audio format a few weeks back and now Elvis.com (the official Elvis Presley web site) has announced that BMG will be releasing Elvis 30 #1 Hits as a DVD-Audio title on December 10, 2002.

Blue Man Group, in conjunction with Virgin Entertainment Group, North America has designed and created a revolutionary custom DVD booth that will showcase the 5.1 surround sound mix of their Grammy nominated, debut album, AUDIO. The booth is 8 feet tall and 7 feet wide and resembles a giant PVC tube, like those Blue Man Group uses in their hit shows. The booth makes its debut in the Virgin Megastore, Las Vegas in the Caesar’s Forum Shops. Current plans are for the booth to remain in the Las Vegas store for six months.
