The Beatles’ entire CD collection will be remastered and is set to be released September 9th.  For a limited time after release, the CDs will include a documentary short about each album.  Most of the Beatles catalogue has not been remastered since it was copied on to CD format in 1987.

Sony may be preparing for the day when CDs are a thing of the past with their new Blu-spec discs.   This format was launched in Japan this past November, but much of the details still remain vague.  

On November 11th, Rhino is releasing a 7 CD / 6 DVD box set of the English rock band Genesis.  Genesis: 1970-1975 presents five of the band's studio albums as CD/DVD sets featuring new stereo mixes of the original albums on CD, along with a DVD that includes the original album in 5.1 DTS (96/24) and Dolby Digital Surround Sound, plus bonus videos and new interviews with band members filmed exclusively for these reissues.  The set covers Peter Gabriel's tenure with the group as well.  Read on to check out a video sample from the disc and the full track listing.

Linn Records announces two new SACD collections; the 10 disc Jazz collection and the 10 disc Classical Collection, both at more than - available throughout June 2008.

The Library of Congressin Washington DC has announced this year's 25 recordings that have been selected for national presevation due to their cultural significance.  Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album, the best selling pop album of all-time, tops the list of 25 for 2007.
