Hitting the streets just a few days ago on November 20th was the latest release from DTS Entertainment, and it's a blockbuster: Queen's classic rock hit, "A Night At The Opera" on DVD-Audio, featuring the landmark "Bohemian Rhapsody" and the epic "Prophet Song". The 5.1 remix was performed by top engineer Elliot Scheiner, who has previously remixed such classics as The Eagles' "Hotel California" for surround. He was accompanied on the sessions by original Queen producer Roy Thomas Baker.

Despite announcements suggesting that EMI has committed itself to the Super Audio CD high-definition audio disc format, a press release from EMI Music Distribution last month suggests that instead, the label is concentrating initially on the competing DVD-Audio format. EMI is planning what Richard Cottrell, EMI Music Distribution's President, called "a full slate of DVD-Audio titles", according to the release. "We are excited to build sales for our artists and retail by opening our wonderful catalog to this new music format," he went on.

Britney Spears’ self-titled third album debuted at Number One on the charts this week after selling 746,000 units, dethroning the King of Pop. Michael Jackson's "Invincible" debuted at Number One last week, but ended in the No. 3 position on this week's charts. Britney made musical history this week when she became the first solo female performer in the history of The Billboard 200 to have her first three albums debut in the number one spot. Britney also debuted at Number One in Canada, Austria, Germany, Israel, and Switzerland.

EMI, the parent company behind Virgin Records and Capitol Records announced that they will release 17 new SACD titles. The first group of artists are projected to include Geri Halliwell, Fun Lovin' Criminals, Beverley Knight, Coldplay, Joe Cocker, David Bowie, Pet Shop Boys, Tina Turner and Paul McCartney. Virgin Records also has artists like Blue Man Group out on the competing format, DVD-Audio. EMI’s UK representatives weren’t available for comment on whether or not Sony is paying any part of development costs for their SACD titles as Sony is doing for Universal (UMG). There has been no mention as to how many of the tiles will be remastered into 5.1 as opposed to simply a higher resolution stereo version. Contacts inside of Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG) deny rumors that they are soon releasing any DVD-Audio titles from their prolific roster of artists of expansive back catalog. Ileane Santana of BMG’s Corporate Publicity Department said "BMG does support the DVD-A format but there are no titles to be released yet. Its just all rumors – so far."
