Joey Ramone, lead singer of the groundbreaking punk band, The Ramones, passed away Sunday, April 15th, 2001. Ramone was hospitalized in March of this year and was diagnosed with lymphoma. His death was confirmed by the Ramone's longtime artistic director, Arturo Vega.
For 22 years, Ramone fronted the influential punk band The Ramones. Most music critics and modern day punk bands feel that the Ramones paved the way for bands from the Clash and the Sex Pistols to Green Day and The Offspring. Joe Strummer, lead singer of the Clash called the Ramones "..the daddy punk group of all time," in a recent interview with Spin magazine.
