James DesBorough, an editor for the World Entertainment News Network (WENN) is alleged to be the mystery writer behind rumors that the Beatles guitarist, George Harrison was close to his death. DesBorough reportedly misquoted or even fabricated quotes from producer, Sir George Martin about Harrison's supposed condition. DesBorough has since been reassigned.

When Microsoft releases their new operating system Windows XP on October 25, 2001 every copy will come with the new David Byrne song "Like Humans Do" preloaded in order to showcase the new version of Windows Media Player. Originaly released on Byrne’s new album Look Into the Eyeball, the song will automatically play as a digital audio track, complete with album art and lyrics, the first time Windows Media Player is launched on a users computer after installing Windows XP.

Metallica frontman, James Hetfield was admitted to an undisclosed rehab treatment center on July 19, 2001, delaying the recording of the band’s eighth studio album. When the singer/songwriter/guitarist will rejoin the band is cloudy but he will definitely miss the forthcoming launch of the Metallica.com web site.

Legendary guitar hero, know for his finger picking style and mellow, echoey sound, died at the age of 77. Atkins had fought battles with Cancer in the 1970's and also had a brain tumor removed in 1997. Atkins played with Elvis Presley on Heartbreak Hotel, The Everly Brothers on "Wake Up Little Susie" and Hank Williams Sr. on "Your Cheatn' Heart." Atkins, at the time of his death, just released a new album entitled "The Day Finger Pickers Took Over The World." Source: guitarsite.com

Grammy winning rap star Eminem was sentenced to one year probation and community service today in Pontiac, Michigan according to a RollingStone.com report. Eminem (Marshall Mathers) had been charged for carrying a concealed weapon and brandishing a firearm in public on April 23, 2001 in relation to an event involving Douglas Dail, an associate of the band Insane Clown Posse. One must wonder if this slap on the wrist to this angry masoginist is enough to change his behavior. With both of his solo records well into the multi-platinum range, you'd expect Mr. Mathers to wise up and enjoy the role of the biggest star in pop music. Yet he continues to show is lack of tact by picking public fights with Brittany Spears (shouldn't he be trying to get her phone number instead?) and behaving foolishly as he was convicted ...
